The music of Exhaust unfolds through real-time exploration, where quick reflexes and deep listening shape each performance. Nebbia’s powerful saxophone voice drives the ensemble with intensity, while Downes reveals a side of his playing that leans into raw immediacy and unrestrained expression. Lisle acts as both a catalyst and anchor, crafting fluid rhythmic structures that support and propel the trio’s intricate interplay. Their album moves through a vast spectrum of sound, shifting between melodic counterpoint and richly textured soundscapes, embracing contrast and constant transformation.

CAMILA NEBBIA
Camila Nebbia, ursprungligen från Buenos Aires och numera baserad i Berlin, är saxofonist, kompositör, improvisatör, bildkonstnär och curator. Jazz PT Magazine har beskrivit henne som ”en av vår tids oumbärliga saxofonister”. Som multikonstnär undersöker hon teman som identitet, migration och minne.
Hennes senaste soloalbum – Una ofrenda a la ausencia (”en gåva till frånvaron”) på Relative Pitch Records – beskrevs av NYC Jazz Record som ”ett djupt mänskligt och personligt album som överraskar lyssnaren med en passionerad tolkning av jazzen”.
Nebbia har samarbetat med en lång rad framstående musiker, däribland Marilyn Crispell, Michael Formanek, Angelica Sanchez, Randy Peterson, Tom Rainey, Patrick Shiroishi, Vinnie Sperrazza, Katt Hernandez, Kenneth Jimenez, Lesley Mok, Cecilia Lopez, Susana Santos Silva, Elsa Bergman, kollektivet l’Arfi i Lyon, Joanna Mattrey, Kit Downes, Andrew Lisle, John Hughes med flera.
Andrew Lisle, born and raised in Northumberland (UK) but now based in London, is a multi-directional drummer, and composer. His quick and highly textural playing filled with rhythmic complexity makes him a highly in-demand member of the fertile jazz & improvised music community. In turns both propulsive and abstract, Lisle has worked with many of the leading voices on the UK and European improvised music scene, including: Kit Downes, John Edwards, Alex Ward, Camila Nebbia, Charlotte Keeffe, Tom Challenger, Ab Baars, Rodrigo Amado, John Dikeman, Colin Webster, Dirk Serries and many more. He performs at notable venues including: Cafe oto, and Vortex (London); KM28 (Berlin), Bimhuis (Amsterdam), De Singer (Belgium), Galeria Zé Dos Bois (Lisbon); and festivals such as London Jazz Festival, Jazzfest Berlin, Freejazzfestival Saarbrucken, Jazz Jantar (Poland), to name a few. His most active projects currently are: Exhaust (feat. Camila Nebbia, Kit Downes), Multi-directional (feat. John Edwards, Kit Downes), KODIAN Trio (feat. Colin Webster, Dirk Serries), Ab Baars/Aaron Lumley/Andrew Lisle, and Tom Challenger/Caius Williams/Andrew Lisle.
Kit Downes is a BBC Jazz Award winning, Mercury Music Award nominated solo recording artist for ECM Records. He has toured the world playing piano, church organ and harmonium with his own bands (‘ENEMY’, ‘Troyka’ and ‘Elt’) as well as with artists such as Squarepusher, Bill Frisell, ‘Empirical‘, Andrew Cyrille, Sofia Jernberg, Benny Greb, Mica Levi and Sam Amidon.
Kit performs solo pipe organ and solo piano concerts – as well as playing in collaborations with saxophonist Tom Challenger, cellist Lucy Railton, composer Shiva Feshareki, saxophonist Ben van Gelder and with the band ‘ENEMY’ (with Petter Eldh and James Maddren).
He is also currently working with violinist Aidan O’Rourke, drummer Seb Rochford
He has written commissions for Cheltenham Music Festival, London Contemporary Orchestra, Biel Organ Festival, Ensemble Klang at ReWire Festival, the Scottish Ensemble, Cologne Philharmonie and the Wellcome Trust. He also performed as part of the National Theatre production of ‘Network’ from 2017-2018, featuring actor Bryan Cranston.
He has performed solo organ concerts at the Elb Philharmonie in Hamburg, Lausanne Cathedral, Flagey in Brussels, the Royal Albert Hall in London as well as the Southbank Royal Festival Hall, Rochester Jazz Festival (US), St Olafs Minneapolis (US), Stavanger Konserthus, Aarhus Philharmonic Musikhuset, Darmstadt Organ Festival, Stuttgart Organ Festival, Laurenskerke in Rotterdam, Orgelpark in Amsterdam, Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church at Berlin Jazz Festival, and the BBC Proms amongst many others.
He holds a fellowship at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he himself studied and now teaches. He has twice been awarded 1st place in Downbeat’s Critics Poll Rising Star for Organ and Keyboard categories respectively, and his ECM records ‘Obsidian‘, ‘Dreamlife of Debris‘ and ‘Vermillion‘ have been released to much critical acclaim.
